Pete Schmutte has spent the better part of 30 years honing his craft and has established himself as a standout pastry chef in the mid-west and beyond. As Pastry Chef of Cerulean Restaurant in Indianapolis, he earned a reputation for the balanced flavors in his desserts, combined with a love of textures and a nuanced approach to presentation. This led to Schmutte being invited to cook at the prestigious James Beard House as a featured chef in the summer of 2015. Now, after years of helping to support Indianapolis’ growing pastry culture, he is an operating partner in the newly celebrated Leviathan Bakehouse. Pete's desserts have been featured in Dessert Professional magazine, Pastry & Baking North America, Sophisticated Living, Nation’s Restaurant News, the Indianapolis Star, Indianapolis Monthly, and Nuvo Newsweekly, among others. Schmutte has also competed in national level pastry competitions at Pastry Live in Atlanta and Star Chefs International Chef’s Congress in New York City. Schmutte resides on the south side of Indianapolis, his hometown, with his wife and young daughter.
